Expect to get FIRST-
Two islands, Perhentain Kecil (small) and Perhentain Besar (large), make up the Perhentains Islands just off the mainland town of Kula Besult. Not much in the way of night life (or night anything!) despite one of the islands claiming to be the party island!Food is excellent, but drinking is expensive. Beautiful islands but not much else to do, other than diving or lazing on the beach
LOGISTICS
All boat diving, but the sites are very close to the shore. You can normally leave your dive gear (if you bring your own) at the shop and it will be nicely assembled on the boat for you at the next dive!
WHERE TO STAY
Not really a cheap place to stay, not the bargains of Thailand, but very clean and accommodation normally comes with the dive shop. Mosquito hell for an hour after sun set!
TAKE ME THERE
You need to get yourself Kula Besult. Buses run to here from most major towns in Malaysia and it is just across the border from Thailand.
However, if you are travelling from Thailand you have to cross the troubled Southern provinces for the most direct route. I f you wish to aviod this area (as recommended by the UK FO) then you would cross from Hat Yai to Penang and travel form there.
