YOU ARE LOOKING AT DIVING IN TIOMAN, MALAYSIA THESE ARE THE REPORTS THAT DIVERS OF THIS AREA HAVE SENT TO US

Mick & Shaz Septemer 2007

Our first impressions weren't very positive as in is not a pretty island, but it does seem to grow on you! We arrived at ABC (Air Batang Village) and there are a fair number of dive shops to choose from. We went into most of them and decided on B&J divers as they appeared to be the most professional. If you are thinking of learning to dive they even have their own swimming pool.

We didn't book a package but just dived each day as we wanted, but after completing the number of dives that would have qualified for a package we were given the discount anyway!

We made our way to the dive shop and our equipment was sent ahead to

the pier (by motorcycle sidecar) and we just walked the ten minutes of so to the jetty to met the boat. The normal dive day was for 2 dives with lunch served on the boat during surface intervals.

We found the dive sites good with lots of coral in excellent condition and good viability considering it was the low season. No really big stuff, but many turtles, nudibraches, and reef fish. There is also an interesting wreck dive of 12 Thai fishing boats sunk by the Malays for illegal fishing! They are only in around 20 meters and close to shore so it is an easy wreck dive and we also finished this dive under the jetty which is teeming with fish life.

One of the unexpected benefits of Tioman is that it is a duty free island; a very pleasant change from the normally high prices of booze! In Teltek there are 2 duty free shops where you can buy booze.
