YOU ARE LOOKING AT DIVING IN TIOMAN, MALAYSIA. GOOD DIVING AND A BIG PLUS FOR SOME AS IT IS DUTY FREE AND BOOZE IS CHEAP!
A large island just off the coast of Malaysia opposite Mersing. Some good diving, but not the prettiest of islands. Most island transport is by water taxis as the roads are mostly unmade or almost non existent in places, but the taxis are very expensive. Many dive sites although most of the activity is around Salang village and Air Batang village (normally called ABC), although there are sites off the east coast and south tip. The diving season is normally March to November.
LOGISTICS
There are both boat and shore diving available here. Once you get yourself to the dive shop, they will arrange for your gear to loaded on the boat, or taken to the beach, and then it is normally a walk to the pier or beach.
WHERE TO STAY
Typically the backpackers place is Salang village or ABC (Air Batang village).
If you are staying at Salang, the walk to ABC is definitely for the adventurous as it is half jungle trek, which means you are a bit restricted as you have to use the water taxis. Staying at ABC you can at least walk to the village of Teluk where the duty free shops are.
Of course, it does have it’s high end hotel which are mainly near the airport.
TAKE ME THERE
Tioman does have a small airport, but most people will probably come by way of Mersing. Buses from all over Malaysia operate to here and you can get a combined bus/ferry ticket.
Even if you don’t get the combined ticket there it is not a problem as there are frequent ferries to Tioman

We strongly believe in coral conservation and the need for recreational divers to be aware of the harm they can cause to decades of coral growth. We advocate good buoyancy skills with the emphasis that divers should refrain from touching or collecting anything, dead or alive, on a dive.
