You need to decide where to dive and arrange it with a shop or agent although it is probably better and probably cheaper to get yourself to where you want to dive and book it direct with the dive shop.
As there are no dive sites in Bangkok, check out diver reports in the area that you want to dive. Nearest sites are in Pattaya, then Koh Chang and Chumphon.
WHERE TO STAY
There many places to stay in Bangkok and all at bargain prices compared to Europe. It has it's hotels and cheap guest houses, and it must be one of the few capital cities where you can still get a room for just under three pounds (200 Baht)! (Lee Guest house 3 near Lumpini Park). Of course a lot of backpackers head for Kho San Road.
TAKE ME THERE
All major airlines fly into Bangkok, the cheapest, from the UK are normally the Arab airlines, Gulf, Qatar, Emirates and Eithad, but none of these are direct.
When leaving by bus, your best bets are the government bus stations, rather than booking with an agent. Koa San Road especially offers cheap tickets to most popular destinations, but it will stop at many places and most likely end up in an unknown part of town surrounded by tuk tuk drivers!
Bus stations are located North, South East & West depending on where you want to go!. Trains run to Pattayya and South to Surat Thani,Hat Yai & on to Malaysia

WHAT’S IN A NAME?
Officially Bangkok has the longest place name in the world! It is called,in Thai:

Roughly in English:
City of angels, the supreme repository of divine jewels, the great land unconquerable, the grand and prominent realm, the royal and delightful capital city full of nine noble gems, the highest royal dwelling and grand palace, the divine shelter and living place of the reincarnated sprit.
However, in the 18th century the only cartographers were European, so they were never going to win that one! So Bangkok the foreigners called it, and Bangkok it was! Even the Thais only use the first small part of the original name ‘Krung Thep’ (City of Angels).
(Anyway, the full name wouldn’t really fit on to your travel map would it!)
Well, there is no diving as such in Bangkok; it does have water but diving in Bangkok's klongs is definitely for the insane, but dive shops here will sign you up for courses, and training can be done here, or arrange weekend dive trips. They have a good retail selection and you can also book just about anything here!
