The Similan and Surin islands are acknowledged as a world class dive site. Typically reached by liveaboard boats from Phuket, Khoa Lak and Ranong.

Normally, 3 or 4 day trips will not reach the Surin Islands, notably Richleau Rock, only the 5 day trips would reach this.

When booking your liveaboard it's worth checking which dive sites you are going to if you have a desire to dive the Surin islands.

Day diving trips are also possible from Phuket, Khoa Lak and Ranong and will reach the near islands by speedboat, but it is a long day from Phuket.

Booking is necessary if you want to dive over the Xmas and New Year period.

During the monsoon season, few boats make the trip to these islands so if you are planning to dive here May till October, you need to check with your dive operator first.

Most dive shops in Phuket, Khoa Lak, Krabi, Phi Phi and Ranong can arrange trips for you.

What’s in a name?

There does not seem to be a single name for some dive sites, and different dive shops call sites by different names so don’t be too surprised if they haven’t heard of some sites shown on here.

A word of warning! Some Liveaboard operators also use their boats to accommodate day trippers arriving by speed boats. It can happen that these boats may be over crowded while the day-trippers are on them, and may also restrict the boat from visiting good dive sites because they would be too far away to met up with the speed boats. Ask the if the boat is  only for liveaboard use also, it is reasonable to assume that a four day liveaboard leaves every four days, if you are told it's every day, be suspicious! Check before booking!!!

Most divers will visit here on a liveaboard trip, or a daytrip. Stated as world class diving but affected by the monsoons during May till October and very, very busy at Xmas & New Year
