YOU ARE LOOKING AT DIVING IN MYANMAR, EXCEPT THAT YOU CAN’T DIVE HERE, OR AT LEAST NOT FROM HERE! YOU HAVE TO BOOK THE TRIP IN, AND TRAVEL FROM, THAILAND
That’s easy -
Badly affected by the monsoons, little diving, if any, takes place May till September
VISA
Your liveaboard operator will arrange your visa for you which is normally around US$100 for diving trips,.
However, a normal visa to Myanmar cost little more than US$20! (This is not your liveaboard operator ripping you off, this is what Myanmar charge)
For live aboard diving at Burma Banks or Myiek Archipelago is it currently necessary to book the trip in Thailand. Contact these dive operators
RANONG
Liveaboards to Similan & Surin islands and the Burma banks. This is as close to Burma as you can get and still be in Thailand!
PATONG
We invite you to come and look and find out for yourselves why we are the Dive Company with a difference.
No other dive operator on the island carries such a wide selection of diving equipment.
KHOA LAK
We personally own and operate all three of our liveaboard boats
GETTING THERE
There are flights into Rangoon, but if you want to dive at the Burma Banks or Myeik Archipelago then, at the moment, these must be booked in Thailand, which is a shame but hopefully common sense will eventually prevail and a trip to Myanmar can include a diving trip!
Incidentally, Myanmar is a great place to visit. It has culture, enough Buddhist temples to satisfy anyone (Bagan), and is very cheap. Well worth a visit despite what some guide books say about it.

DIVING IN MYANMAR
The name game : Myanmar or Burma
Burma changed it’s name to Myanmar some years ago. It claimed, apparently with some justification, that they have always referred to their country as Myanmar and it was this name that was in all of the treaties drawn up by the British, although the British translations used the name Burma.
