YOU ARE LOOKING AT DIVING IN INDONESIA. WITH 12,000 OR SO ISLANDS THE DIVING IS VARIED! FROM THE EASY (BALI) TO THE CURRENTS OF FLORES AND KOMODO DRAGONS!

wp7b6e8f32.png

Diving is possible all year around - somewhere!

Varied diving conditions throughout Indonesia

VISAS

Most western passport holders will pay US$30 for a 30 day visa, but most Asian passport holder get free 30 day visa on entry

Overstays are treated very seriously! Needs to be sorted out before you get to the airport.

BALI

Famous for it’s wreck at Tulamben, Bali offers diving to suit most levels of experience, although not directly in Kuta the main tourist part of the island.

JAVA

Not the best diving in Indonesia, but who has dived the underwater lava flows of Krakatau! Also some diving on the islands off Jarkarta.

KALIMANTA

Part of the island of Borneo eclipsed by the better know sites of Sabah and marred by logging and ecological destruction,

MALUKU

Little explored area with travel and logistic difficulties. Probably great potential but only a few dive operators are here.

IRIAN JAYA

Wonderful diving in unspoiled conditions. Trouble is they might not let you in here owing to local unrest. Liveaboards operate this area, but are not in the budget range.

SULAWESI

World class diving in out of the way places. Sometimes the scene of civil unrest!

SUMATRA

Most of the diving was in Ache province, terribly damaged in the tsunami. Not sure of it’s current status

NUSA TENGGARA

Best known for the laid back Gilli islands with easy diving, this island chain stretches to Flores with fearsome currents and nearby home of the Komodo dragons

TAKE ME THERE

International flights from Europe are mainly into Jarkara or Denpasar (Bali), but from Asia other options are open. Sea crossing from Penang (Malaysia) to Medan in Sumatra is popular option, but the one month visa restricts to much travelling. It is now possible to travel down form the Philippines.
